Boyd becomes Scranton mayor, but openings on council remain

~by The Scranton Journal

Jerry Boyd officially became the mayor of Scranton at the Nov. 9 city council meeting following his election earlier in the month.

Before he could do that, he had to resign his council seat, leaving a vacancy on the council. Dustin Gibson took the oath of office for a council seat following the election.

In the meantime, Jeramie Phillips resigned his council seat effective immediately, and David Dideriksen submitted his resignation from the council effective January 2022.

The council plans to appoint someone to fill Boyd’s seat at its Dec.14 regular meeting. An appointment for Phillips’ seat is expected in January.

According to the Greene County auditor’s office, those receiving write-in votes in the Nov. 2 election are not automatically moved into the vacant seats but may be considered for appointment.
